COMPANY OVERVIEW

Company Description

Veridium Labs Ltd. is a startup owned by parent EnVision Corporation, a company that is an incubator of sustainable technologies. Veridium’s goal is to create a tokenized marketplace for natural capital (environmental) assets and is starting with carbon credits. Veridium is tokenizing carbon credits into fungible assets that have liquidity on the Stellar blockchain platform. Veridium partnered with IBM in October 2017 to create the new Verde token. The token is based on carbon offsets from forest management projects (REDD+) and renewable energy projects around the world (TIGR).
In the partnership, IBM is the token manager or broker, Stellar is the underlying ledger, and Veridium provides the environmental structure. The initial Verde tokens will include REDD+ credits from InfiniteEARTH, a sister company owned by EnVision. REDD+ is a carbon offset measured by reducing deforestation and forest degradation beginning with a pioneering project in Indonesia, the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve.

Project Segmentation and Industry Positioning

Project Segmentation 1 | Blockchain Use Case Categories

Blockchain projects typically fall within certain Use Case categories. Use-Case categories are used to sort and classify projects by business model type and value proposition.

Project Segmentation 2 | Energy Industry-Specific Positioning

Industry-specific project segmentation occurs on the basis of three distinct categories. Energy and Environment Position, Energy Value Chain, Transactive Energy, and Technology Adjacency:

  1. Energy and Environment Position: Industry positioning specific to the energy and environment sector which may include designations such as power, natural gas, oil, water, waste, etc.

  2. Energy Value Chain: Projects are positioned along the multiple steps of the energy value chain spanning from production to consumption

  3. Technology Adjacency: Project exposure to technologies used in the energy and environment sector which may include specific types of generation, transmission infrastructure, or other grid-edge facilities like electric vehicle charging stations

Project Segmentation 3 | Other Segmentations

Other project segmentations define additional project characteristics such as the inclusion of transactive energy functions oand targeted consumer / user segments.

  1. Transactive Energy: Projects may or may not include transactive energy applications including demand response management, peer-to-peer transactions, or ancillary services

  2. Targeted Users / Consumers: Answers what types of users / consumers this project is relevant to, whether on the scale of serving individual consumers in on a residential-basis or on a large scale of serving commercial and industrial customer or even governments
