In early 2024 PP&A walked enterprise security leaders through a new security hub on the cloud website of a Fortune 10 technology company. That round also tested a concept for a revamped resource hub, which the participants who saw it received well. By October 2024 the company had launched a resource hub on its security site. The page gathers the company's security articles, blogs, threat reports, videos, podcasts and event listings in one place, with a featured report at the top, side filters by content type and topic, a search bar with featured filters, and a grid of publication cards.
The company's web user experience research team wanted to know whether the live page worked for the people it was built for. Could security leaders find what they needed, and would they trust it? The team asked PP&A for a second round of candid outside feedback, this time on a working page rather than a concept.
PP&A wrote the interview guide and led five in-depth interviews between October 23 and 28, 2024. The participants were three chief information security officers (one also chief information officer) at companies in insurance, health technology and payments; the head of cloud engineering and security at a consumer finance company; and an independent technology advisor with more than twenty years of infrastructure and architecture leadership.
Each interview opened with the participant's own world: top security concerns, the channels they use to stay informed, a recent search for security information, and any prior use of the company's knowledge resources. PP&A then shared the live page and asked participants to click through it on their own computers, one area at a time: first impressions, the sub-navigation, the featured content at the top, the side filters, search and featured filters, and the publication cards. For each area PP&A asked what worked, what did not and what was missing, and closed with the participant's takeaways and suggestions.
PP&A condensed the five transcripts into a summary workbook that sets out each participant's points section by section, so the team could compare all five views on any part of the page.
The participants described a crowded market. Their top concerns ranged from insider threats and data leaks through human error to talent, personal liability, reduced control in the cloud and a wider attack surface from generative AI tools. They stay informed through peer forums, conferences, analyst research, resellers, social media and vendor sites. One said a resource hub is not typically a first stop for security information, and two others had reached the company's articles through social media or outside blog posts.
The page earned credit for a clean design, current articles and a large volume of content, and one participant rated it positively overall. Its tools drew the sharpest criticism. All five found fault with the side filters: overlapping or empty categories, a topics list collapsed by default, awkward scrolling, and no way to filter by industry, expertise level or hands-on material such as labs and tools. Three said search matched keywords rather than meaning, and two could not tell how the featured filters related to the side filters. Two said the cards did not show whether a click led to an article, a video or a podcast.
Positioning split the group. Two wanted the hub moved out of the cloud product navigation, and one of them saw it as marketing and asked for independent voices from academia and government. Two others wanted the opposite: closer links to the company's cloud platform and security products. One participant skipped the featured report at first, taking it for an advertisement, and another recognized the brand behind it only from prior experience.
Their suggestions, captured in the workbook, gave the web team a practical list: fix filter and truncation bugs, label content type and topic on every card, add industry and trending filters, offer topic subscriptions and email alerts, and personalize content by visitor type.
