PP&A Case Study
Testing a Live Security Resource Hub With Enterprise Security Leaders
How a Fortune 10 technology company learned how security leaders find and judge vendor content
Client Situation

In early 2024 PP&A walked enterprise security leaders through a new security hub on the cloud website of a Fortune 10 technology company. That round also tested a concept for a revamped resource hub. By October 2024 the company had launched a resource hub on its security site. The page gathers the company's security articles, blogs, threat reports, videos, podcasts and event listings in one place, with a featured report at the top, side filters by content type and topic, a search bar with featured filters, and a grid of publication cards.

The company's web user experience research team wanted to know whether the live page worked for the people it was built for. Could security leaders find what they needed, and would they trust it? The team asked PP&A for a second round of candid outside feedback, this time on a working page rather than a concept.

Our Approach

PP&A wrote the interview guide and led five in-depth interviews between October 23 and 28, 2024. The participants were three chief information security officers (one also chief information officer) at companies in insurance, health technology and payments; the head of cloud engineering and security at a consumer finance company; and an independent technology advisor with more than twenty years of infrastructure and architecture leadership.

Each interview opened with the participant's own world: top security concerns, the channels they use to stay informed, a recent search for security information, and any prior use of the company's knowledge resources. PP&A then shared the live page and asked participants to click through it on their own computers, one area at a time: first impressions, the sub-navigation, the featured content at the top, the side filters, search and featured filters, and the publication cards. For each area PP&A asked what worked, what did not and what was missing, and closed with the participant's takeaways and suggestions.

PP&A condensed the five transcripts into a summary workbook that sets out each participant's points section by section, so the team could compare all five views on any part of the page.

Client Results

The client's web user experience research team received a summary workbook that sets out each participant's view of every part of the page, so it could compare five security leaders section by section. The workbook covered where a vendor resource hub fits among the sources security leaders rely on, their first impressions of the live page, and how well the sub-navigation, featured content, filters, search and publication cards helped them find and judge content. It also recorded how participants saw the hub's positioning and the changes each would make.

The workbook gave the web team a practical list of participant suggestions to weigh, each tied to the part of the page it concerned and to the security leader who raised it.
